- Do you offer discounts?
You may be eligible for half price decluttering. Ask for information.
- What if I don't live close to Hurricane, West Virginia?
If you have no other resource, you can hire Linda by (1) paying her mileage (calculated by MapQuest) at $1.00 per one-way mile, or (2) buying her a plane ticket, pay $50 per hour travel time, and provide her a place to stay and meals. She loves to travel.
- Is any job too small?
Linda will help you make decisions about anything, from one room to one drawer or a single item, if you like. Minimum charge is $100 plus mileage, room, and board.
- My daughter won't let go of her favorite basketball shoes, even though they are too small to wear. What can I do?
By taking photos with the promise of framing them for her bedroom wall, a teenage girl happily let go of 20 pairs of expensive too-small basketball shoes.
- What about the box the computer came in? Don't I need to keep it in case I want to return it for repair?
If you are a person who regularly mails items back for repair, then, yes, store the box. If you have NEVER taken ANYTHING back for repair, consider letting it go.
- Do you help me organize what I want to keep?
Linda will ask you questions about what you choose to keep to use and enjoy. As you make the decision to keep less, then organizing is a "piece of cake."
- Why do I keep everything?
Self-help books or therapy may provide the answer to that question. Conversation about stuff requires the same fee as actually decluttering.
- Is it painful?
If you are asking this question, you are not ready for Stuff-Be-Gone.
- What if I want something back that you take away?
When you make decisions to let go of many things, then discover you wished you still had a certain item, buy another one. Then enjoy the space you have created from all the other items you DON'T wish were still there!
- What about greeting cards?
Enjoy them for the moment, let them go, and look forward to future moments when there will be more! For people who enjoy recycling, cut off the front and reuse it as a postcard, possibly sending it back to the person who sent it to you and a thank-you for their thoughtfulness.
- Don't I need to keep all these financial records?
Ask your accountant.
- But I may fit into those clothes again some day!
Styles will change and new clothes feel SO good!
Recently, Linda's 92-year-old mother downsized from a two-bedroom apartment to a one-room assisted living facility. Linda's mother still had the dress that she wore to Linda's first wedding 35 years ago. One of Linda's friends pried it loose by asking Linda's mother to donate it to the church rummage sale for the "vintage clothing" table. Later when Linda held up her mother's size 10 shorts that her mother used to garden in (and she now weighs 200 pounds), Linda's mother asked asked, "You mean I will never wear that again?" After Linda offered to let her try it on, her mother declined and let it (and everything else that she no longer wore) go.
- But my family (boyfriend/girlfriend) won't let me get rid of anything.
Sometimes a consultation with all people concerned brings many surprises and energy to make things better! When you make decisions and reflect those outwardly by moving your things out, others offer respond to your excitement.
- But I love the songs on these records!
Multimedia transfer equipment is available to digitize almost anything.
- But this/these are irreplaceable!
So are many items you will see on your next vacation! Also, many museums are ecstatic with donations of rare collections!
- Can I get a tax deduction for the items you remove?
Only if you take them yourself to an agency that provides such receipts. Anything that Linda removes will NOT have a tax-deductible receipt unless a Goodwill truck has been arranged and the driver provides an on-site receipt.
- What happens to the items you remove?
Usually, the items are donated to the Hurricane Senior Center where they are sold to shopping seniors in a Boutique for 25 cents per item. The seniors on limited income are delighted with their "finds." Otherwise you can make your own arrangements for Goodwill or other local agency to pick them up.
- Do you do telephone consultations?
Telephone consultations can be arranged by purchasing an online Gift Certificate, minimum $100 for a 2-hour one-time consultation. (This service will be available in November, 2008.)
- Do you provide boxes or garbage bags?
No.
- Do you clean the space afterwards?
No.
- Have you ever turned down a job?
Yes, when a person asked me to pay her to remove the items she did not want.
